Municipalities in València/Valencia within the path of totality

132 municipalities in València/Valencia saw the totality of the August 12, 2026 eclipse.

Observation guide

No stretch of the eclipse track carried better sky statistics than the northern edge of Valencia province, where Benavites and Quartell both post a 75.7 percent historical clear-sky rate during the eclipse window. The province placed 132 municipalities inside totality, the city of Valencia among them, while the longest total phase occurred at the opposite end of the territory: Castielfabib, north of the Rincón de Ademuz enclave, at 1m 24s.

That pairing shaped the index. Benavites took first place with 82.5 points and 1m 22s, Quartell followed on 82.2 with 1m 21s, and Canet d'En Berenguer, Algímia d'Alfara and Quart de les Valls all cleared eighty points on historical clear-sky rates between 71.8 and 75.7 percent. Totality ran shorter here than on the Castilian plateau, but the statistical odds of actually seeing it ranked among the best on the entire track, with a provincial average of 68.5 percent.

Sun altitude at maximum fell between four and six degrees, among the lowest anywhere along the path. On the Valencian coast the land drops eastwards towards the sea, so the obstruction sat behind you: the inland ranges to the west-northwest blocked the view from a great many beaches and terraces. That 68.5 percent condenses thirty years of data from 1996 to 2025 and says nothing about the sky of 12 August. Spain's next total eclipse, on 2 August 2027, covers Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla only.

Totality was not evenly distributed across València/Valencia: 77 seconds separated its best-placed town from its worst. That is why the list is split into three bands worked out from the province itself, the terciles of its own duration distribution rather than one fixed cut applied to all thirty-one provinces. Inside each band the towns stay in alphabetical order.

The long third: 1m 8s to 1m 24s

46 of the 132 towns in València/Valencia, 35% of the provincial total, reached 1m 8s of totality or more. The longest reading belonged to Castielfabib at 1m 24s, ahead of Alfara de la Baronia (1m 22s) and Algar de Palancia (1m 22s). They cluster towards the north of the province, the side the centreline of the path ran along: the closer to that axis, the longer the shadow took to pass.

The middle band: 55s to 1m 7s

Another 43 towns, 33% of the province, landed between 55s and 1m 7s. The ceiling of the band, 1m 7s, was reached by 5 towns at once, 17 seconds short of Castielfabib, which set the provincial maximum. This is the transition band and it behaves like one: it holds no area of its own, it slots in between the other two.

The short third: 7s to 54s

The remaining 43 towns, 33% of the province, fell short of 55s. The floor of the band, 7s, was set by 2 towns together, 77 seconds below Castielfabib. Figures like those put you on the very edge of the path, where the shadow only clips the ground and totality shrinks to little more than a blink. They concentrate in the south of the province, the side furthest from the centreline of the path.
