The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Quartell (València/Valencia)

Quartell and Benavites stand 600 metres apart and share a climate cell: the same 75.7 per cent clear days, the same 22.5 per cent cloud cover, the same 14.3 per cent average rainfall, the same 30.8-degree mean maximum. They also share an elevation, nine metres and ten, and entered totality one second apart, at 20:31:47 and 20:31:46.

With all that in common, the index separates them by three tenths: 82.2 and 82.5. The tie is broken by two small, checkable things: one second of totality, 81 against 82, and three tenths of a degree of clear horizon, 2.8 against 3.1. It is a useful reminder of how far the ranking is decided by margins nobody would notice on the ground. Quartell finished second in the province of Valencia and shares with its neighbour the best clear-sky percentage in the 1996-2025 provincial record, which describes three decades of Augusts rather than that particular evening.
