The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Benavites (València/Valencia)

Six Valencian municipalities reached 82 seconds of totality or more, and only one of them also topped the observation index: Benavites. Castielfabib, which set the provincial maximum at 84 seconds some 103 kilometres away, stopped at 63.6 points because of its horizon and its climate; Benavites reached 82.5.

What tipped the balance was the sky record: 75.7 per cent clear days in the eclipse window between 1996 and 2025, the highest value in the province alongside Quartell, and 14.3 per cent on the rain indicator. At 10 metres of average elevation, out on the coastal plain, the terrain in front of the Sun came down to 1.9 degrees, though with the disc only 5 degrees up that margin stayed narrow: a single row of houses or trees towards the west-north-west was enough to erase it. Totality ran from 20:31:46 to 20:33:08, and the Sun set at 21:01:20 with the eclipse still under way.
