Cantabria put 102 municipalities inside the path of totality, Santander among them, one of the few provincial capitals where the Sun was fully covered. The longest totality belonged to Camaleño at 1m 41s, and the strongest figures clustered in the Liébana valleys and along the southern edge of the region where it opens onto the plateau. The shadow swept the province in a matter of seconds, so neighbouring towns recorded near-identical durations and the real decision was never which comarca to pick but which viewpoint.

Potes led the index with 72.2 points and 1m 39s of totality, trailed closely by Vega de Liébana and Pesaguero at 1m 40s each and by Cabezón de Liébana. Valderredible reached the same tier from the far south of the province. What none of them could offer was sky: the thirty-year average for clear conditions during the eclipse window is around 18 percent in Cantabria, peaking at 21 percent. The duration was excellent, but the statistical odds of actually seeing it were among the tightest on the whole track.

With the Sun only eight or nine degrees up, a single ridge, hillside or bank of sea haze was enough to hide the event entirely. In terrain this mountainous that counted for more than on the plateau, and the vantage points that worked were not the highest ones but those whose west-northwest quadrant was genuinely empty. The clear-sky figures come from three decades of records between 1996 and 2025; they characterise a climate, not that particular afternoon. The next total eclipse from Spain arrives on 2 August 2027, though its path reaches only Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla, leaving Cantabria out.
