The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Santander (Cantabria)

Santander held the cleanest horizon of the Cantabrian entries in this batch: 9.1 degrees of margin under a Sun standing at 9, which in practice describes a sea horizon at the observer's own level, with no terrain to subtract. At 30 metres of average elevation, it was the exact opposite of the Liébana case.

And it still finished 80th of the 102 Cantabrian municipalities for duration, on 63 seconds: thirty-seven fewer than Pesaguero or Vega de Liébana, a little over seventy kilometres away. The index places it 73rd with 58.2 points, because a perfect horizon does not offset losing more than a third of the event. The sky statistics were no help either: 17.6 per cent clear days for the date, 62.2 per cent mean cloud cover and a mean minimum of 17.1 degrees, the highest of the Cantabrian entries and typical of the coast.
