The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Pesaguero (Cantabria)

Cantabria's duration record, 101 seconds, was set in Camaleño, but the terrain model treats that municipality as blocked: its horizon margin is -1.6 degrees, with the Sun at 9 and an average elevation of 1,208 metres ringed by rock walls. Setting Camaleño aside, the longest totality the index regards as observable in the province is the 100 seconds of Pesaguero and Vega de Liébana.

Pesaguero, 19.4 kilometres from that thwarted record, finished third in the provincial ranking on 71.9 points. Its own horizon was hardly generous either: 4.3 degrees of terrain in front, barely 4.7 of clear Sun, and 778 metres of average elevation. The sky statistics, 18.6 per cent of clear skies and 61.9 per cent cloud in the 1996-2025 record, are typical of the valley and say nothing about that particular evening. The total phase ran between 20:27:19 and 20:28:59: it entered the shadow six seconds after Potes and left it seven seconds later than the town did.
