The Galician paradox came down to two numbers. Astronomically, A Coruña was among the best in the country: 59 municipalities inside the path, the capital included, a maximum totality of 107 seconds at Mañón, close to a minute and 47 seconds, and the highest Sun of any province in this group at 11 to 12 degrees above the horizon. Climatically it is the weakest of the set, with clear-sky records during the eclipse window averaging just 16 % and dropping as low as 8.7 % in some municipalities.

The observation index put Mañón (71.5), Cariño (70.9), Cedeira (70.6), Ortigueira (70.3) and Cerdido (69.9) at the top, all of them in the far north and all at roughly a hundred seconds or more. Those scores held up despite clear-sky figures ranging from 8.7 % to 15.2 %, a good illustration of how the index works: duration and solar altitude carry real weight, so an astronomically excellent site could still lead the table with the climate against it. Of the five, Cedeira balanced both factors best.

A Sun sitting 11 to 12 degrees up was a genuine advantage over other provinces, since it gave clearance above the skyline and made the exact choice of spot less critical. Even so, along a coastline as broken as the Ortegal, standing beneath a headland or without an open west-northwest view changed the outcome. Cloud was the real constraint, and it deserves plain language: that 16 % average comes from thirty years of records between 1996 and 2025, long-run odds rather than a report of 12 August. Spain's next totality, on 2 August 2027, crosses only Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla; Galicia is not on its path.
