The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Mañón (A Coruña)

The municipality with the longest totality in A Coruña also held the worst sky statistics in the whole province. Mañón recorded 107 seconds, thirty above the provincial median, alongside 8.7 per cent of clear skies at that hour within the 1996-2025 record: no other municipality in the province falls that low, and 63.5 per cent mean cloud cover goes with it.

That contradiction is precisely what the observation index has to arbitrate, and Mañón still led the province with 71.5 points, because duration carries 40 per cent of the weighting and climate only 30 per cent. The rest of the file worked in its favour: 364 metres of average elevation, the highest in the Ortegal, and barely 1.7 degrees of terrain in front of the disc, which stood 12 degrees up.
