The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Cariño (A Coruña)

Second-longest municipality in A Coruña with 104 seconds, three behind Mañón, 15.7 kilometres away. That is the ranking. The nuance the duration table does not carry is that Cariño had the worst horizon of the five places that dominated the province: 3.6 degrees of ridge blocking the Sun, twice Ortigueira's figure and worlds away from Cedeira, whose horizon falls below the observer. With the disc at 12 degrees, the effective margin dropped to 8.4.

The municipality's 273 metres of average elevation did not solve that on their own, because everything depended on which side of the ridge a given viewpoint sat. On top of the obstruction came the worst sky statistics in the district after Mañón and Monfero: 10.3 per cent clear days and 61.9 per cent mean cloud cover between 1996 and 2025, climate figures rather than a description of that afternoon. Totality arrived at 20:26:40, two seconds after Mañón, and left at 20:28:24.
