Municipalities in Segovia within the path of totality

Two hundred and four Segovian municipalities fell under the Moon's shadow, the provincial capital included. The longest totalities were not in the mountainous south but in the north-east, around Maderuelo and the border with Soria, where Aldealengua de Santa María reached 1m 40s, the provincial ceiling. Moving south-west the band narrowed and durations fell away, which meant a short drive of a few kilometres was worth tens of extra seconds of total eclipse to whoever made it. Distance travelled paid off unusually well here.

The same north-eastern corner owned the top of the observation index. Aldealengua de Santa María and Languilla shared 81.6 points, with Alconada de Maderuelo, Riaguas de San Bartolomé and Maderuelo a fraction behind. Each paired a totality of 1m 39s to 1m 40s with a historical clear-sky average close to 50 percent. Province-wide that average settles at 47.6 percent, spanning 40.6 to 53.3 percent, which is close to a balanced coin toss with no clearly hopeless corner.

Sun altitude at maximum was a flat eight degrees right across the province, with no meaningful variation. That is a critical height: the Segovian tableland gives generous sightlines, yet a poplar, a farm shed or the mountain profile itself was enough to spoil the view wherever it sat to the west-northwest. Treat that 47.6 percent average for what it is, a summary of sky behaviour between 1996 and 2025 rather than a record of the day. The next total eclipse visible from Spain comes on 2 August 2027, but its path crosses Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla only, not Segovia.
