The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Viveiro (Lugo)

Viveiro was the only municipality in this archive where the Sun was eclipsed at 12 degrees of altitude. One degree more than its Mariña neighbours and between six and eight above what was seen on the Ebro or in Los Monegros: the 2026 band entered Spain from the north-west with the Sun still reasonably high and kept losing it as it moved south-east. That geometric advantage, reinforced by 9.1 degrees of clearance over the terrain, made the estuary a comfortable viewpoint.

Totality lasted 106 seconds, ninth among the 66 Lugo entries inside the band, between 20:26:45 and 20:28:31, and the eclipse did not end until 21:21:11. The sky statistic, 9.4 % clear days between 1996 and 2025, is poor in absolute terms yet better than Ribadeo's or Burela's; within the Lugo coast, Viveiro sat in the upper half. Final index: 71.4 points, sixth in Lugo, on a shore where the sea itself was the cleanest window west.
