The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Arévalo (Ávila)

One ratio sums up what happened at Arévalo better than any other figure: 55 minutes and 42 seconds of partial phase for 37 seconds of totality. Almost ninety times more waiting than spectacle. The Sun was fully covered between 20:31:10 and 20:31:47, and at 21:21:44 it set still bitten by the Moon.

Even so, those 37 seconds were the second best figure among the 14 Ávila municipalities that made it inside the band, behind only Palacios de Goda, 8.3 kilometres north, which reached 41. Ávila was an edge province: the track barely grazed its northern corner and totality visibly shortened as you moved south, down to 30 seconds at Orbita. The observing index awarded 59.4 points, far from the eighty-somethings of the Burgos Ribera, but not because of the sky: its 53.1% clear rate for the date over thirty summers of record, an average rather than an account of the day itself, beats most of the towns that doubled its duration. The horizon was no obstacle either, with 7.9 degrees of clearance from 825 metres of flat cereal country.
