The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Orbita (Ávila)

Thirty seconds. That is the shortest totality among the 29 entries in this archive and yet Orbita still finished fifth in the Ávila provincial index, on 57.0 points. The reason is that sky and horizon together carry 60% of the weighting, and on both counts the town was well served: a 53.5% historical clear rate for the date, the lowest mean cloud cover in this whole group at 28.3%, and 8.3 degrees of open sky to the west.

At 860 metres, Orbita is also the third highest point among the 14 Ávila municipalities that fell inside the band. Its total phase ran between 20:31:19 and 20:31:49, the latest start in this archive, and it followed a partial phase that had already lasted 55 minutes and 44 seconds. The comparison with Palacios de Goda, 15.9 kilometres to the north, puts numbers on what being on the edge meant: eleven more seconds of umbra for sixteen kilometres of road, very nearly a second per kilometre. After the corona vanished the Sun stayed up for another 49 and a half minutes, setting at 21:21:19 with the eclipse still unfinished.
