At 20:31:49 totality ended at Espinosa de los Caballeros, and with it the latest totality in this archive: none of the other 29 municipalities gathered here saw the corona later, except Orbita, which finished in the same second. The shadow had arrived 32 seconds earlier, at 20:31:17, after almost 56 minutes of partial phase.

Latitude explains that brevity. At 41.017 degrees north, Espinosa was the southernmost of the five best-placed Ávila municipalities, and on the southern edge of a totality track every kilometre towards the equator is paid for in seconds: Palacios de Goda, thirteen kilometres further north, took 41. In exchange, the location posed no practical difficulty at all. At 851 metres on flat ground, the town kept 8.3 degrees of horizon clearance and a sky statistic of 53.1% clear for the date across the thirty-year series, in line with the rest of the district. The index closed at 57.6 points.
