Unlike what happened in Segovia, Tarragona or Lugo, here the capital did not lose out. Oviedo measured 108 seconds of totality, only two short of the maximum along the entire Spanish band, and finished 35th of the 78 Asturian councils in shadow. In a province whose median was 107.5 seconds, almost any point served for the stopwatch; the whole contest was played out in the other column.

And there Oviedo settles at 13.3 % clear days in the thirty-August average, below Nava, Villaviciosa or Sobrescobio, with mean cloud cover estimated at 66.5 %. That leaves it on 73.3 points and 12th in the provincial index despite its advantage in seconds. At 260 metres, with the Sun at 10 degrees and 9.8 clear of terrain, the urban skyline was not the problem. The city lay in shadow from 20:27:00 to 20:28:48 and the partial eclipse did not end until 21:21:00, by which point the Sun was very low over the hills west of the city.
