The municipality that accumulated the most totality in all of Navarre also had the worst horizon of the five index leaders. Monteagudo posted 87 seconds, from 20:28:38 to 20:30:05, and at the same time the tightest terrain clearance in the leading group: 4.7 degrees, against 5.4 at Ablitas, Barillas and Tulebras or 5.8 at Cortes. It is not a bad margin in absolute terms, with the Sun 7 degrees up, but it is a reminder that even in the Ebro lowlands there were terrain profiles that took something away.

It is also the highest of the five provincial leaders at 406 metres, and that modest elevation edge fits an average high slightly more restrained than its valley-floor neighbours, 31.3 degrees on 12 August. The comparison that puts things in perspective is this: those 87 seconds, the ceiling of an entire region, fall 16 short of what was measured in eastern Guadalajara. When the Sun sank, at 21:11:27, the Moon had still not let go of it.
