The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Lapuebla de Labarca (Araba/Álava)

Lapuebla de Labarca topped the Álava index with 71.7 points having lost the duration race: its 82 seconds are one fewer than Baños de Ebro, Elciego and Labastida managed. It made up the gap with the best sky statistics in the province, 39.7 per cent of Augusts clear at that hour between 1996 and 2025, close to double the Álava average, with 43.9 per cent cloud cover.

It is also the lowest-lying of the group, 441 metres of average elevation, right against the Ebro channel, and the last to enter the shadow: totality began at 20:28:02, seven seconds later than in Labastida. Its weak point is the horizon, 6 clear degrees under a Sun at 8 or, put the other way round, 2 degrees of terrain in front, the poorest margin of the five. With the event sitting that low, those two degrees were far more than a technicality: they were the difference between seeing the corona and seeing a hillside.
