The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Amposta (Tarragona)

At sea level on the Ebro, Amposta shared with Deltebre the best sky statistic in the province: 57.1 % of days with open sky for that date in the 1996-2025 record, against a provincial median of 44.9 %. Added to 94 seconds of totality, the ninth longest of the 169 Tarragona municipalities in the band, that earned it 81.3 points and third place in the index.

The hard part here was not the weather but the angle. The Sun stood at 5 degrees and the terrain model granted only 2.5 of clearance, so a building, a riverside poplar or a low rise to the west-north-west was enough to hide the disc at precisely the right moment. The partial phase began at 19:36:11 and totality arrived almost fifty-four minutes later, between 20:29:56 and 20:31:30. The record holds no end time because the Sun set at 20:59:52 with the eclipse still open. The percentage is a thirty-year average and not an account of that evening.
