The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Villaviciosa (Asturias)

Among the Asturian coastal councils, none of those gathered here had a better statistical outlook than Villaviciosa: 19.7 % clear days in the 1996-2025 average for that date, the fourth figure of the 78 councils in the band and well above the 4.6 % of the region's worst point. It is still an unreliable sky in absolute terms, with mean cloud cover around 62 %, but in Asturias that counted as good news.

The price was paid in seconds: 104 of totality, 64th of 78, six fewer than El Franco's maximum. With 73.7 points it tied in the index with Ribera de Arriba, which had arrived from the opposite extreme, plenty of time and a worse sky. At 114 metres and with the Sun at 10 degrees, clearance over the terrain was 5.0, the second tightest of the six Asturian councils in this archive. Totality ran from 20:26:46 to 20:28:30 and the eclipse ended at 21:20:40.
