The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Vilamartín de Valdeorras (Ourense)

Thirteen kilometres southwest of Rubia, totality already lasted nine seconds less. Vilamartin de Valdeorras recorded 59 seconds against the provincial maximum of 68, and such a steep gradient over so little distance is the unmistakable signature of a shadow band's edge: every kilometre south subtracted darkness.

It compensated partly with terrain. Its 7.9 degrees of horizon clearance are the widest of the five Ourense municipalities gathered here, almost double those of Carballeda de Valdeorras, and with eleven degrees of Sun at azimuth 280 that left a reasonable reserve even in a closed valley. The sky, a 40.1% historical clear-sky share, ranks eighth of the province's fifteen, with 39.4% average cloud cover and an average high of 26.6 degrees. At 699 metres it sits roughly midway between the valley floor and the surrounding heights. All told, 63.5 points and fourth place in Ourense. Total darkness lasted from 20:29:10 to 20:30:09, barely a minute, and the disc took until 21:22:53 to come back whole.
