The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Rubiá (Ourense)

Ourense's maximum was measured at Rubia: 68 seconds, and no other municipality in the province reached that figure. It is worth putting on scale. Sixty-eight seconds is barely over a minute, when Leon or Palencia went past a minute and three quarters; Ourense only grazed the band at its northeastern corner and contributed fifteen municipalities against the two hundred-odd of the Castilian provinces. There was no room here for picking the wrong spot.

Rubia was also the first of this group to go dark, at 20:29:01, leaving totality at 20:30:09. Its horizon clearance, 5.7 degrees, is modest for a province whose median is around 8.3, and its sky statistic, 39.1% of clear days, ranks ninth of fifteen. At 531 metres and with an average high of 27.9 degrees, the index gave it 66.5 points, tied at the head of the province with Carballeda de Valdeorras despite beating it on duration.
