The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Sobrescobio (Asturias)

Sobrescobio is the Asturian case where the terrain came close to ruining everything. The horizon model computed 3.6 degrees of headroom for a Sun sitting at 10: some six and a half degrees of mountain in the way, the largest obstruction across the twenty-nine entries in this group. It did not quite join the four councils the model marked as outright blocked, but it came near, and at 619 metres, wedged into the eastern sector of the range, the choice of the exact observing spot mattered more than anywhere else in the province.

In return it offered 107 seconds of totality, between 20:27:11 and 20:28:58, and 16.4 % clear skies between 1996 and 2025, sixteenth of the 78 Asturian councils under the shadow and better than Oviedo's or than much of the central coast. The index gave it 73.8 points, third place in Asturias. That percentage is an average of thirty summers and tells us nothing about the sky on that particular evening.
