Three municipalities. That was the entire share of Barcelona province inside the path of totality, and the city of Barcelona was not one of them. All three sat at the southwestern end of the coastline, where the edge of the band grazed Catalonia before heading out over the Mediterranean. Cubelles took the provincial maximum with 25 seconds of fully hidden Sun, Castellet i la Gornal managed 20, and Vilanova i la Geltrú only 10. This was the very rim of totality, with all the fragility that implies.

The observation index mirrored that narrowness: Cubelles led with 51.7, ahead of Castellet i la Gornal at 50.1 and Vilanova i la Geltrú at 46.4. All three share essentially the same clear-sky record, between 41.9 % and 42.8 %, averaging 42.4 % across the province, so the ranking came down to duration alone rather than climate. The honest conclusion is that in this corner the difference between sites was measured in seconds, and that a short drive southwest along the path multiplied what an observer actually got to see.

Ten or twenty-five seconds of totality with the Sun just 4 degrees above the horizon left no room for improvisation. At that altitude the disc was already sinking into the coastal haze that tends to build over the sea late in the day, and a single apartment block, pine stand or headland to the west-northwest was enough to ruin the view. That 42 % clear-sky figure is a thirty-year average covering 1996 to 2025, never a forecast for the day. Catalonia's next chance is not soon: the total eclipse of 2 August 2027 covers Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla and nothing further north.
