The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Monteagudo de las Vicarías (Soria)

The site index left it top of Soria with 84.2 points, and yet Monteagudo de las Vicarias was only 63rd in the province for duration. The apparent contradiction comes down to the weights: duration counts 40%, horizon clearance 30% and climate the remaining 30%. Its 103 seconds, two below the Soria ceiling, barely cost it anything; its 55.7% of clear days, the second best provincial record, added a great deal.

The weak spot was the relief. With the Sun 7 degrees above the horizon at maximum, the model left 5.7 degrees of clearance, below the provincial median. That is enough reserve, but not the comfort the northwest of the band enjoyed. Totality ran between 20:29:34 and 20:31:17, and at 21:12:08 sunset cut the eclipse short of its astronomical end. At 835 metres this was also almost the lowest point in eclipsed Soria: a single one of the 183 municipalities sat below it. The rest of its climate record matches the headline figure, with 30.7% average cloud cover, 30.9% of Augusts recording rain and an average high of 29.8 degrees, all of it drawn from the 1996-2025 series rather than from the day itself.
