The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Logroño (La Rioja)

La Rioja's capital made it into the band, but through its narrowest stretch. Logroño logged 81 seconds of totality, from 20:28:03 to 20:29:24: twenty seconds less than the upper Najerilla and 162nd of the 174 Rioja municipalities under the shadow, with only twelve below it. Villavelayo, which nearly doubled that to a minute and a half, sat 56 kilometres away by mountain road.

What it paid in seconds it recovered in convenience. At 390 metres, in the Ebro corridor, Logroño enjoyed a far cleaner horizon than the mountain valleys: 6.3 degrees of headroom between the disc and the west-northwest profile, 71st in the province, against Villavelayo's bare 2.0 degrees. It also won on statistical sky, with 39.5% clear days in the 1996-2025 sample against 36.9% up the valley, though that figure describes the climate of thirty Augusts rather than that particular evening. The Sun set at 21:15:30, 46 minutes after totality ended and with the eclipse still unfinished.
