The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in la Mata de Morella (Castelló/Castellón)

Climbing brought a reward and a penalty, and la Mata de Morella received both. At 877 metres it is the twenty-second highest of the 135 Castellon municipalities that fell inside the band, and that elevation earned it 3.1 degrees of horizon clearance, almost a full degree more than the 2.2 Torreblanca had to work with at sea level and above the provincial median. With the Sun only 5 degrees up at maximum, every tenth of a degree counted.

The penalty came through climate. Its 58.0% of clear days is the lowest of the five Castellon municipalities featured here and ranks 83rd in the province, with 34.2% of Augusts seeing rain, the wettest record of the group: inland and high up, the Castellon summer loses part of its reputation. Duration did cooperate, 100 seconds, seventh of 135 and one off the provincial maximum, between 20:30:17 and 20:31:57. The index closed at 83.8 points, fifth place in Castellon.
