The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Degaña (Asturias)

Degaña took the best score in Asturias, 75.8, while also being one of the councils with the least totality: its 102 seconds place it 67th of the 78 Asturian entries inside the band, eight below El Franco's record. What put it first was precisely the figure the region was weakest on. Its 29.1 % historical clear-sky rate for that date, drawn from 1996 to 2025, is the highest in Asturias, more than double the regional average and roughly six times that of the worst-placed coastal councils.

At 1,171 metres in the mountainous south-west, the climate model, which weighs altitude and distance from the sea alongside position, identifies a window there that simply does not exist on the coastal shelf. It also had 10.2 degrees of skyline to spare under a Sun at 11, among the widest margins along the whole band. Totality ran from 20:27:52 to 20:29:34 and the eclipse closed at 21:21:54.
