Buitrago del Lozoya closed out the leading group in the Madrid region on 74.4 points, and it did so with the tightest horizon margin of the five: 2.9 degrees, barely half La Hiruela's 5.6 or Prádena del Rincón's 5.9. At 997 metres in the upper Lozoya valley, the surrounding relief ate a good part of the barely eight degrees the Sun had above the western horizon, and in practice that meant seeing or missing totality came down to exactly where you planted yourself. Neighbouring Gargantilla del Lozoya, less than seven kilometres away, was already down to 1.6 degrees and 65.5 points. In exchange, Buitrago held the second best sky of the five at 52.2 % of clear days, against the 45.9 % of La Serna del Monte, five and a half kilometres off and with two more seconds of totality. All percentages are 1996 to 2025 averages. The date turns wet there in only 16.3 % of years, the driest reading of the Madrid five.
