The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Bilbao (Bizkaia)

Thirty seconds. That was the whole of the Biscayan capital's totality, from 20:27:18 to 20:27:48, and it was enough to place Bilbao on the short list of Spanish cities inside the band. It is less than half of Lanestosa's 66 seconds and leaves the city 34th of the 56 Biscayan entries with totality. A good half-hour of partial phase for half a dozen breaths of darkness: the most urban eclipse in the province was also one of the shortest.

Its record is that of a city at the bottom of an estuary: 59 metres of altitude, the highest average minimum temperature of the province among these municipalities at 17.3 degrees, and average cloud cover of 57.2% on 12 August across the 1996-2025 series, with only 18.1% of years clear. The horizon calculation granted it 5.8 degrees, better than its enclosed setting suggests, though an average municipal margin does not fix whatever one particular building blocks. Sunset, at 21:19:05, arrived ahead of fourth contact.
