The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Algar de Mesa (Guadalajara)

One minute and 43 seconds. That was the ceiling for the whole province of Guadalajara, and it was measured here: totality opened at 20:29:53 and closed at 20:31:36. Fuentelsaz matched those 103 seconds exactly, so the provincial top spot was not settled by duration but by the third leg of the index, the sky record. Some 54.1% of the thirty 12 August dates in the 1996-2025 series dawned clear at Algar de Mesa, against 53.0% for its neighbour. Three tenths of an index point, and first place among 288 municipalities.

One detail undercuts the high-viewpoint cliche: Algar is the lowest of the leading cluster in the Senorio de Molina, at 978 metres, two to three hundred below Tartanedo, Maranchon or Ciruelos del Pinar. It did not need the height. The terrain model gave it 5.3 degrees of clearance above the western skyline, with the Sun only 7 degrees up and at azimuth 284. Nobody watched the eclipse end here: the Sun set at 21:10:51 still bitten by the Moon.
