The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Sant Joan (Illes Balears)

Sant Joan was the inland location that slipped in among the Balearic leaders. It sits in the middle of the Pla de Mallorca at 127 metres, and it reached fifth place on 83.6 points with 95 seconds of totality. What is interesting is how little it would have taken to fall out: its horizon margin was 2 degrees, and Sineu, under seven kilometres away with 94 seconds and a margin of 1.4, was held to 73.6 points; Porreres, at nine, dropped to 68.2 on exactly 1 degree. Ten index points across six tenths of a degree. With the Sun two degrees above the horizon, the island's central plain did the same job as the open sea on the Tramuntana coast: it put nothing in the way. Its sky statistic, 63.5 % of clear days, is the average of the 12 August record between 1996 and 2025 and describes no single evening.
