The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Gradefes (León)

Nine hundred and fifty-eight metres: none of the other four top-rated Leon locations stood that high. Gradefes is the one closest to the mountains within that group, and it shows in two opposite places. On one hand, totality lasted 107 seconds, 22nd of 211 and only two off the provincial maximum. On the other, the average August high drops to 26.5 degrees, the coolest of the five.

The sky was less cooperative: a 47.4% clear-day share over the thirty-year series leaves it 81st in the province, ahead of the city of Leon itself but a long way from the provincial best. With 83.1 points it finished third in Leon. Horizon clearance, 8.7 degrees with the Sun 9 degrees up, remains wide, though narrower than in the fully flat municipalities: heading north brings the ridgelines closer to the west-northwest. The total phase ran from 20:28:08 to 20:29:55, and the disc came back whole at 21:21:52.
