The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Banyalbufar (Illes Balears)

Three of the five municipalities nearest Banyalbufar never saw totality at all. Esporles, five and a half kilometres away, had the same 96 seconds of total phase and a statistically better sky, but the terrain model gave it a margin of −1.1 degrees: the Serra de Tramuntana covered the Sun before the eclipse reached its peak. Puigpunyent fared the same way on −2.4, and Valldemossa was left with a +0.2 that still fell short of counting the Sun as visible. Banyalbufar, by contrast, drops down the north-western flank of the range and faces open sea from 427 metres, and that left it 4.6 degrees of margin with the Sun only three above the horizon.
