The August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse in Antigüedad (Palencia)

Twenty-five Palencia municipalities tied at the provincial ceiling of 107 seconds. Antigüedad was not one of them: it stopped at 105 and ranked 84th of 191, exactly the provincial median. And it still topped the Palencia index with 84.3 points. That only happens when duration stops discriminating, and in Palencia it did: thirteen seconds separate the best and worst municipality in the band, a very narrow spread next to Leon's thirty-nine.

The other two legs decided it. Horizon clearance of 8.6 degrees, among the widest in a province of open farmland, and the Sun eight degrees clear of the ground at azimuth 282. And a 53.6% share of cloudless days in a thirty-August count, the eighteenth provincial record, with only 29.1% of Augusts seeing rain and 34.0% average cloud cover. Totality ran between 20:29:03 and 20:30:48; the Sun was still eclipsed when it set, 51 minutes after maximum. At 905 metres, Antigüedad also stands well above the median altitude of the Palencia band, which is around 841 metres, on the tableland that gives the Cerrato its long, uninterrupted skylines.
