The 2027 observation index places six Cádiz municipalities among the country's top ten and fourteen among the top twenty. The reason is the clock: nine municipalities in the province will exceed 240 seconds of totality, led by Tarifa at 278, and the total phase will begin on mainland Spain at Conil de la Frontera, at 10:44:51. Conil also heads the national ranking with 93.3 points, the result of pairing 240 seconds with an 86.7 % record of clear skies at the hour of the event.

The counterweight is a cloud the daily average hides. Barbate shows 93.3 % of clear days on 2 August, but looking only at the 10:00 to 11:00 window, which is when the eclipse falls, it drops to 76.7 %: nearly seventeen points taken by the low stratus of the Strait before it burns off. Alcalá de los Gazules loses thirteen; Algar, Arcos and the provincial capital ten apiece. It is the steepest fall along the whole path, and it explains why Barbate, with 255 seconds, ranks only fourteenth.

Inland the opposite happens, and it does not compensate either. Grazalema records the province's only 100 % of clear days, yet will get just 41 seconds of totality; El Bosque gets 35 and will be the hottest point on the path, with a 35.0 °C average maximum. Towards the northeast the band narrows fast. These percentages are worth reading for what they are: a count of how many of the thirty years between 1996 and 2025 dawned clear at that hour, not a forecast for 2027.

What Cádiz will see on August 2, 2027

30 of the 105 Spanish municipalities inside the path of totality are in Cádiz, 29 % of the total. Totality will last between 35s and 4m 38s depending on where you stand: Tarifa sits at the long end of that range and El Bosque at the short one.

Maximum eclipse sweeps the province between 10:46:40 and 10:47:50 mainland Spanish time, with the Sun between 37° and 38° above the horizon. The path of totality is about 238 km wide here, and the municipalities of Cádiz fall between 45 and 118 km from its centre line.
